| Business Adviser Of The Year - 24 July 2010
National Business Adviser Of The Year

Graham Varney from Benfield & Loxley building contractors was awarded the Young Enterprise Business Adviser of the Year Award. Supported by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the award recognises the role that Graham played in leading our team from Oxford High School to the Innovation Awards national finals.
Graham was delighted to win the award saying: “I’m honoured and really rather humbled with this award. The team made my job easy really because they were fantastic. All I did was help them with aspects such as time management, helping them to spot market opportunities and encourage them to think anything is possible. Their commitment, creativity and teamwork was amazing. I am proud to have been their business advisor.
John May, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise, said: “Volunteers are a vital part of the Company Programme experience and there is a real sense of pride and achievement when they are able to lead teams into the Innovation Award finals. Graham was instrumental in Oxygen’s success and has inspired them to nurture and unleash their enterprise and entrepreneurial talent. He is a worthy winner of this award.
Hazel Garvey, Director of Business Development at the ICAEW said: “The business volunteers that give their time and experience to young people taking part in the Company Programme are often the unsung heroes of Young Enterprise. The one word that Graham’s team kept saying about him was ‘frustrating’. But that is because he refused to give them the answers but did what the best advisers do and that is nurture their talents by guiding them and allowing them to make mistakes but then helping them to learn from these to grow and really develop and hone their business skills. He is a worthy winner and the Oxygen team I know are very proud to see him pick up this award.” |
